About The Hopping Mind

Welcome to The Hopping Mind, a blog of short essays and commentary. While the posts touch on any number of topics, certain themes predominate, especially our need for connection to nature and how time spent in the outdoors nourishes us. Reflections on relationships, family, society, and community are woven throughout. Thanks for reading.

  1. Just read your essay in the latest issue of Crazy Wisdom Community Journal and thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing with us your thoughts and observations about this special time of year. Our paths crossed years ago at Mott and I am glad to know that you are still around, contributing to the welfare of children.

    • Dear Cecilia,
Thanks so much for reading the piece in CWCJ and looking in on my blog. I remember you from Mott, of course! I hope you are doing well now. I am pleased to be writing in the CWCJ – the piece you read is my first, and I definitely have another set for the spring issue. A shorter version of The Quiet Season appeared first in this blog. If you’d like to follow The Hopping Mind, which simply means you’d get an email whenever a new piece is posted (every month or so on average), just follow the instructions in the upper right margin about putting in your email address. In the meantime, be well, and happy new year to you!
      –Josh
